Reading through Welch’s The Humility Project for Men, I was struck with this simple reality: Royal blood is humble blood. Royal blood is so easily perceived as proud blood. The cream of the crop, the top shelf, the pick of the litter, gold star status. And yet, these are worldly metrics. These measurements are distorted, odd, bizarre, incongruous with the reality of our Resurrected Lord Jesus. For Christ is King, God over All, the Name above every other name.
Welch writes that ‘we are created with royalty in our veins…’ And yet we so easily forfeit this grace and transfuse a sinister concoction that wreaks havoc, pulsing throughout every cell of our body, its vicious poison. “We are created with royalty in our veins…” New creations, created in Christ Jesus, to be conformed to the image of the Divine and Royal Son of God.
Royal blood is Humble blood. Jesus, being in very nature God, or as some have said, because he is very God, didn’t grasp but gave, he emptied himself, for this is the nature of God, a self-giving, life-giving, My life for yours, God. He humbled himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him above all, Christ is King! Royal blood is humble blood.
May this royal blood pulse through and purify every vein, cell, fiber, faculty of our mortal frame, til mortal is made immortal, til this perishable frame is created imperishable, til this man of dust be like the man of heaven.
May God graciously, patiently, kindly, humble us before His Holy, humble throne of grace. May we grow to know Jesus more each day, the power of His life-giving resurrection and the fellowship of sharing His sufferings, so as to be wrought and worked, formed and crafted, shaped and fashioned, more and more like our Royal Brother, our Victorious King, til death is fully and finally swallowed up in the beauty and glory and His holy, humble, everlasting life.
